A taste of Nepal around the table

The idea behind “Dinners for a Cause” is a simple one: gather a few friends and family around a table, cook authentic Nepali recipes, and let the meal do the fundraising. Guests get to taste the flavours of Nepal firsthand, and the money raised goes towards helping low-income families in the remote villages of the Himalaya. This year the report even shares one of the dishes, “Mingma’s Dhal”, so the experience can travel beyond the original table.

What makes it work is that nothing about it is complicated. There is no ticketed gala or big production, just good food, good company and an evening spent in support of children’s education in Mikwakhola. Our thanks go to the committee members who opened their homes and did the cooking, and in particular to the fundraising subcommittee: Martin Broby, Jen Lissarrague, Danielle Taylor and Katina Simos.

Dinners sit alongside the Fund’s other income streams. Mingma Sherpa runs treks through See High Peaks, and Dr Louise Petersen contributes through her book sales, so support reaches us in a few different ways across the year.

If a Nepali dinner with friends sounds like your kind of evening, you are warmly invited to host one of your own. And with the Fund now registered with the ACNC and holding DGR status, donations are tax-deductible, so every plate shared goes a little further.

Help rebuild a classroom in Nepal.

Your gift is tax deductible in Australia, and because we're entirely volunteer-run, the large majority goes straight to village projects.
